Thanks for reaching out to us here in the Community. I'd be happy to help you adjust the column width on the Reconciliation screen.
It's important that you're able to view all the information appearing in each column as you reconcile your accounts. Adjusting the columns is simple and straightforward.
All you have to do is hover your mouse over the top column bar, where the title of each column appears. Between the columns, your mouse will adjust into a grabbing tool, which you'll use to click and drag the columns to adjust them.
If you're having trouble with that, please don't hesitate to reach back out for help.
Have a great day!
The method you described is the method I am already attempting to use. Every time I increase the column width on the account column, the amounts columns go off the page and it is almost impossible to simply adjust all columns to an appropriate width for viewing and have them all on-screen. Worse, the columns keep reverting back on every sort, etc. As you say, it is important to be able to see all the information on the page when reconciling but that seems impossible to achieve.
I see what you're saying. Thanks for giving those steps a try.
The amount of information you'll be able to view will largely depend on the device you're using. Larger computer monitors will allow you to view more information on the screen, whereas smaller screens may have limitations. I'd recommend minimizing the text on your screen by clicking "Ctrl -". Doing this will allow for greater visibility of each of your columns.
If your columns continue to revert back to their original formatting, you may want to clear the cache and cookies in your web browser. Doing this will help clear out any stored Internet files that may be bogging you down and causing bugs in QuickBooks Online. To do that, take a look at the steps here: How do I clear my browser cache and temporary Internet files?
Another thing I'd recommend is submitting your feedback to our software development team. To do this, click the Gear icon > Feedback. These messages get sent straight to the engineers, and your feedback helps us to improve the QuickBooks experience.
If you have any other questions, just let me know.
I totally agree with GreenGreta. The issue is that the columns widths revert back after even opening an entry for view. I have a 55" monitor but I have my bank statement open as well. I open them side-by-side. I have plenty of room once I resize the columns. The constant reverting back makes the column resize function useless. So why did the product team add that feature?
Please add the capability to persist the column width on page refresh().
This "grab and drag" does not even work for me most of the time. Once or twice it has, but usually I drag the arrow that appears and it just disappears and nothing changes. Quickbooks needs to FIX this. It is absolutely ridiculous that you can't perform such a simple function as resizing a column in this program.
Hi there. Thanks for joining the thread. If you're having issues with the drag and drop options, I'd encourage you to reach out to our tech support team. Our agents have the ability to share your screen remotely to assist you.
I just want to add that I've noticed a problem with the grab and resize lately too. I used to be able to make it work, but now hovering over the column edges doesn't give me the grab and resize tool. Nothing happens...so I can't even attempt to resize. It looks like I could drag and move the columns, but that is all. Seems like a bug...
Thanks for joining the thread kate111. I appreciate you letting me know what's happening with the drag and drop function. I'm not aware of any ongoing issues with the feature, but I'd be happy to pass on your feedback to my team.
If you'd like an agent to share your screen and investigate what may be happening, please reach out to our tech support team. I'd also recommend trying the browser troubleshooting steps listed above to rule out any browser-related issues.
Have a great day.
I'm having the same issue. I am not about to drag the column widths to resize. This is a new issue within the last week or so. I've never had this problem before. Its a big deal because now I have to export my reports to excel in order to resize the columns before printing. Super inconvenient!
The solution for me for columns disappearing off the screen during reconciling was to only open the screen in browsers private mode, then the columns matched my screen size just fine. I have no idea why this works.
Thanks for describing what's happening with your columns when using QuickBooks Online. Having the columns move on their own isn't helpful when you're trying to do your work, so I want to make sure this is addressed.
The first thing I recommend in this case is checking your mouse and keyboard to ensure there are no stuck keys that might be causing this sort of thing. For instance, if you had selected to move the column and the mouse clicker got stuck, it might still continue to move even as you move away from it with the pointer.
The next steps involve browser, app, and Internet troubleshooting. This ensures that there aren't any temporary Internet files in the cache or issues with the platforms themselves that might be causing this odd behaviour in the program. Give each of these steps a shot to see if they make a difference.
If you're still seeing this behaviour afterward, give our support team a shout using one of the following options.
Schedule a Callback or Chat: click (?)Help in the upper right > click Contact Us > explain your situation > click Let's Talk > choose Get a callback or Start a Chat
An agent can do more troubleshooting with you and alert our engineering team if needed about the issue. I hope that helps!
I am using the desktop version 2016 I have never been able to change the column width on a checking display or other similar displays. All I can do is grab the outside bar and make the whole display larger which affects all the columns. This is getting more important as check or transaction numbers are getting longer.
