non matching staring bank acct

In October I reconciled my bank acct. but had one deposit that I did not have evidence of making. I found the source of the income and changed the deposit to a customer payment. Now my starting bank balance for Dec doesn't match with what the bank has. I need to know how to fix

non matching staring bank acct

Hello Joyell,

Don't worry, I can help you with sorting this out. It sounds like you may have entered the customer payment during your reconciled period, which would definitely throw your numbers off. In these instances, one of the best things to do is undo the reconciliation, verify that you have your transactions entered correctly, and then redo the reconciliation. Here's how.

Undoing a reconciliation in QuickBooks Desktop is simple. Just follow these steps.

  1. Got to the Banking menu and choose Reconcile.
  2. Select Undo Last Reconciliation.

Do this until you get to the point where the beginning balance of your reconciliation is correct. Then it's just a matter of moving forward with the reconciliations with the correct details. Feel free to consult an accountant first if you're feeling unsure about these steps. If you don't already have an accountant, you can find one that knows QuickBooks by visiting our Find a ProAdvisor page.

The following article has some great details about reconciling in the program. Check it out: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop

You can also use features such as the Locate Discrepancies button on the Reconcile window to run the Discrepancy Report and view previous reconciliation reports.

I hope that helps! Let me know if you have further questions.
