QuickBooks Online is built from the ground up to make your bookkeeping simple. Much of the focus is on streamlining standard transaction types, but you can easily take full control over how something is recorded. All be happy to assist you.
The easiest way to record a transaction like this would be as a Bank Deposit. You can find this option in the + New menu, and it'll allow you to select a specific account (rather than a product or service) to quickly record cash coming in. This gives you full control over how this gift appears on reports. If you're not sure which type of account to select, your accountant is the best person to ask. They have the expertise to save the day and make sure everything is compliant with your local tax laws.
