Two of my clients run retail-style businesses (one is a pub and one is a leisure facility). Neither issue invoices as they just use a till with daily cash & card transactions. Waiting for the dashboard to load up to tell me no invoices have been issued and no funds have been deposited against invoices seems rather pointless. It would be handy to customise the dashboard to remove irrelevant sections which would help everything else to load up a little quicker.
I'm wondering what your team has been doing the last year? Why can't some of these changes be implemented? There are so many things that are lacking in this software.
I switched to the online version on recommendation of my CPA. I was told the online version was the same as the desktop, it's not. The functionality is not the same. It is irritating, Intuit keeps collecting our money but no significant changes. I would be happy if the online version was a mirror of the desktop, that would be a good start.
There are more and more options to quickbooks becoming available. Yes QBO is on the lower end of the spectrum as far as cost but cost is not every thing. I am looking for new financial software now. I don't know if I can find something comparable but I'm looking and I understand you get what you pay for.
I also want to voice support for adding functionality to the QBO Dashboard. Seems like there should be a way to add certain reports that we reference all the time. For us it would be Account Payable and Accounts Receivable Aging Summaries. This would give us a really thorough overview of the business in addition to expenses and income.
Hi there. There hasn't been an update yet. I encourage you to directly send feedback to our engineers so you can get email updates once this feature becomes available. To leave feedback, click the Gear icon and look for Feedback. Let me know if you have questions. I'm here to help.
Maybe it's me but compared to other business applications. QBO is incredibly slow and the UI is a nightmare. The dashboard is useless to me but I can't customize it or delete it. A new tab reloads the dang thing instead of a page I actually need. The sidebar defaults to other "helpful" screens I don't need. I reports UI is wacky and the print functionality seems like it changes every week. Again, maybe that's me.
What's not me is the price. $70+ plus a month for a very basic, 2-user install. Compare that to O365 for $17/user and the depth of functionality with Office. Or Adobe Creative Cloud at $58/user and it's depth of functionality. QBO looks and feels like a complete price gouge to me.
@JamesM Maybe you should shuttle this info to the right people? There are genuine needs being expressed here from the QBO client base. The platform is a bit clunky. The only reason I haven't explored other options is that I'm busy running a business, but if I knew of another cloud-based option with some of the suggested features here, I'd consider it.
Thanks. I've whined to them directly till I'm blue in the face. Unless customers object to what they feel is a bad value, nothing will change. I am also "busy running a business" and toy software doesn't make me any more efficient and any less frustrated. There are a couple of other alternatives out there but they don't appear to be any better designed.
I find it a huge concern that funds we receive from loans and money we hold in trust on our Balance Sheet show up as income and expenses on the dashboard. This simply does not align with any normal accounting practice. I can ignore the inaccurate information under "sales" and "expenses" on the Dashboard, but always confuses my husband/partner and any bookkeeper that does work for us. I always have to tell them to ignore two of four boxes on the Dashboard. This should be fixed!!!!
Well, instead of giving us a customization option, the mandatory top tile on the dashboard is now a graph that I don't want, and I have to scroll down to get the data I want, and to select bank accounts. I can't get rid of this "Cash flow" tile, and I don't want it. There are really only a couple of tiles I use on the dashboard, and I would definitely like some different ones. Intuit doesn't seem to care, and have taken the Microsoft approach of "throwing new crap over the fence and running". :-(
Desktop is NOT a choice for all of us who work without brick and mortar. I'm always traveling, and in different situation, so often, using someone else's computer, or using my phone, is my only option for interacting with my QuickBooks account. Very short-sighted response, on your part.
Hi tbassing. Your feedback is important and I want to make sure it's heard. I encourage you to send it directly to our engineers by clicking the Gear icon and looking for Feedback. New product ideas and improvements are largely based on the feedback we get from users like you. Feel free to ask questions. I'm here to help.
I don't understand why you all can't make the dashboard customizable to what WE want - we ARE the customer, after all, and no two businesses are the same - we all have different needs. Every time someone posts their frustration and a decent suggestion, you say "Thanks, we'll tell our engineers! 😃", and then you proceed to try to shove your somewhat useless dashboard back down our throats!
Make the dashboard generically customizable to whatever we want to throw in it! We don't care if you think it's stupid; it's what WE want, not YOU! I would think that should be your prime objective! I just don't understand the massive kerfuffle over this. Every single small biz owner I know who uses QB is annoyed by this feature of your otherwise great product, but most don't bother to complain - they just put up with it.
PLEASE stop telling us how wrong we are to complain about your dashboard, and make it flexible to fit OUR needs, not yours.
Hi thesounddistillerynyc. I want you to know that your voice is being heard on this and it's our priority to implement the most highly-requested features for future updates. While I can't guarantee that the ability to customize the dashboard will be added to QBO, I know this is something many users have asked for. It's always a good idea to submit your feedback in product as well by clicking the Gear icon > Feedback. The more users who suggest this change, the more likely it is to get added.
I hope this helps provide some clarification on the process.
I appreciate the direction James, but why do we even have the forum if it is a two step for suggestions to be heard. You also don't get any context or a complete picture from the gear route, but I will copy and paste my original post.
So Intuit's answer to this problem is to charge $70 more a month to get some of the features that should be there. Also why did the P+L change from 'last month' to 'last 30 days' as a default in the dashboard? It should be current month and why it is not makes no sense whatsoever. Was this done to make us consider the upgrade, which doesn't give a lot more than incremental backups, which was idiotic that it didn't have to begin with, and the ability to change your dashboard? $840/year for something that should have been there in the first release. We shouldn't have to pay for your software improvements, especially incremental backups. When I was using desktop this feature saved me several times. I assumed this feature was in QBO and did not realize it wasn't there until I needed it one day. Intuit markets QBO as being essentially the same program as desktop. I was at our yearly convention and this was told to me by your representative. This is definitely not the case!
I hear you. Feature requests are typically funnelled through the Gear icon in order to make it directly to our engineers. The Community platform is a great place to share ideas and ask questions, as well as to collaborate with other QuickBooks users.
I am having the same issue....my Dashboard is showing ZERO SALES, even though we had thousands of transactions this year. Because the income is in Sales of Product accounts, they don't show up in Dashboard. We NEED a customization feature now - please!
