EFILE error Code 89

Note: Troubleshooting methods for an EFILE error code may vary depending on the tax year. Commencing with the 2019 tax return, the CRA has renumbered several line items and error messages may not be relevant for the tax year you are working on.

Review Chapter 2 of the E-File error messages.

An EFILE error code 89 may occur when trying to EFILE a 2012 T1. The error may read as follows: Contact Code 1 is no longer valid.

Resolution

This error occurs when the option Contact Preparer by Fax is selected on the Info page in ProFile. This method of contact is no longer available from the CRA.

Change the contact method to Contact Preparer by Mail or Contact Client and resubmit the file.
