Unexpected Error when trying to EFILE a return

SOLVEDby Intuit2Updated 1 year ago

When attempting to EFILE, NetFile, or transmit a return, the EFILE window returns an Unexpected error.

This can occur due to software updates, updates for Windows, or antivirus or security software. It may also be a permissions issue in the firewall.

To resolve this issue, check Windows Firewall, the antivirus, and other security software. Also check the system date in the machine. If the system date falls behind the CRA EFILE start date, this error message will appear.

Add permissions in Windows Firewall

  1. Go to Start > Control Panel.
  2. Select System and Security
  3. Select Windows Firewall > Allow a program through Windows Firewall
  4. Look for ProFile on the list. If it is missing, select Change Setting, then Allow another program?
  5. Select Browse, then browse to C:Program Files (x86)ProFileProFile.exe.
  6. Repeat this step for ProFile Update.

Add permissions in an antivirus program

  1. Open the anti-virus software.
  2. Look for the option to create an application exception (in most cases, this option is located under Settings).
  3. Under this setting menu, add the ProFile application folder, or the ProFile.exe and ProFile Update.exe files.

Check Windows update settings

At times, some settings can change with a Windows update. One such case is with the internet options.

Check the internet options:

  1. Go to the Control Panel.
  2. Select Network and Internet.
  3. Select Internet Options.
  4. Go to Connections, then select LAN Settings.
  5. Uncheck Automatically detect settings and Use a proxy server for your LAN.
  6. Check the SSL connections under the Advanced tab.
