How do I fix a problem with employee SIN

Without being able to get into QB to fix the problem, how do I correct the SIN of an inactive employee, or how can I delete this problem, as the employee left over 6 years ago?

How do I fix a problem with employee SIN

Hi eileen,

Let me help you fix your employee's SIN.

You can only correct it by logging in to QuickBooks. If you're getting an error, this is caused by the new Data Encryption code within QuickBooks Desktop.

To resolve this error:

  1. Download and install updates to your QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Open QuickBooks Desktop and sign in as Admin to your company file.
  3. Click Company at the top menu bar, then select Setup Users and Passwords.
  4. Choose Set Up Users.
  5. Delete and recreate all users in the list except for Admin.
  6. For the admin (which cannot be deleted) edit the name and the password associated with Admin.
  7. Close and reopen QuickBooks Desktop, then sign in as Admin.
  8. Follow the Verify Data/Rebuild Data processes to detect and resolve remaining data damage.
  9. After verifying your data, run rebuild and verify again.
  10. Download the latest payroll tax table.

Next, try to check if your employee's SIN are already showing correctly without any error.

Here's how:

  1. Click Employees at the top menu bar, then select Employee Center.
  2. Double-click the employee's name.
  3. Check the Social Insurance Numbers section.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Repeat as needed.

Please let me know if you need anything else. I'm always here to assist you.

How do I fix a problem with employee SIN

I am using the QuickBooks Enterprise 30 day Free trial and the program will close automatically when I reach Step 2 of "To resolve the error". Is there anyway I can fix it?

How do I fix a problem with employee SIN

My QB 2019 takes me to the Admin Password setup screen and after entering admin password, it says Error Encountered (QB is unable to complete this operation and needs to restart. QB will restart automatically)

Let’s get your QuickBooks up and running by performing the data troubleshooting steps.

First, download the latest release to fix known issues and enhance the overall performance of the software. Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Help menu to select Update QuickBooks.
  2. When the dialog box for Update QuickBooks Desktop opens, choose the Update now tab to mark the box for Reset Update.
  3. Hit the Get Updates tab to download the release.
  4. Another window will pop-up, click the OK button to continue.

Once completed, restart the software and then accept the option to install the new update. Then, go back to the employee’s profile to update the information.

If you continue to get the same result, run the rebuild tool after creating a backup of the company file to resolves data integrity issues.

  1. Go to the File tab at the top to select Utilities and then pick the Rebuild Data option.

  2. When the dialog box for QuickBooks Desktop Information will show up, hit the OK button to create a backup.
NOTE: QuickBooks may show that it’s not responding. However, the Rebuild process is still ongoing.

  3. When the Rebuild has completed, select OK.

To proceed, perform the Verify Data troubleshooting steps. Verifying the file identifies most commonly occurring data issues.

Let me know if you have any other concerns. I’ll be more than happy to assist further. Have a good one.
