Is it ok to change the payroll date by one week if the company just sold and has a new owner?

Hi there,

I appreciate you reaching out in the Community. I'd be happy to share more info about changing the pay schedule in QuickBooks.

Here's how:

  1.     Go to Settings ⚙️, then select Payroll Settings.
  2.     Under Payroll and Services, select Pay Schedules.
  3.     In the Pay Schedules section, select Create.
  4.     Select or enter all required fields and select OK.
  5.     Rename the pay schedule in the Description field.
  6.     Enter all required fields.
  7.     Select OK to save your pay schedule, or select Back if you need to make a change.

For more info on this, check out this helpful article: Employee payroll schedules in QuickBooks Online Payroll Enhanced.

Otherwise, I recommend reaching out to the Canada Revenue Agency to find out it's okay for you to change the payroll date. You can find their contact details on this link here. Let me know if you have questions. I'm here to help.

Is it ok to change the payroll date by one week if the company just sold and has a new owner?

Hi There I'm trying to change my payroll schedule, I'm on the online QB, when I follow the instructions, payroll settings doesn't have a "Payroll and Services" option to select. Not sure where to go from here,

Thanks

Hi Marc. It's great to have you chime in on this thread. You'll have to change the pay schedule from the employee's screen. To do this, click on Payroll on the left navigation menu > Employees > select the employee in question > hit Edit Employee > navigate to question 3 > from here you can make necessary adjustments to the employee's pay schedule and in case you need to edit on more than one employee, you'll be prompted to have the changes made on all your employees.

Give this a try and let me know how you make out. I'll be a message away.

Thanks for your help James, I'm still stuck unfortunately.

You'll have to change the pay schedule from the employee's screen. To do this, click on Payroll on the left navigation menu > Employees > select the employee in question > Marc: I did this

hit Edit Employee Marc: I can't find an "Edit Employee" button. I looked through each section (Personal Info / Tax Withholding etc.) and don't see anything that lines up with below. Pay schedule in Employment details only has a drop down for monthly / every Friday etc.

> navigate to question 3 > from here you can make necessary adjustments to the employee's pay schedule and in case you need to edit on more than one employee, you'll be prompted to have the changes made on all your employees.

Cheers

Marc

For those following this thread, I was actually able to find how to make this change. See below ( I have Copy/Pasted the original instructions and added to them)

You'll have to change the pay schedule from the employee's screen. To do this, click on Payroll on the left navigation menu > Employees > select the employee in question > hit Edit Employee (If you don't see the EDIT button, select  Change Status)> navigate to question 3 > from here you can make necessary adjustments to the employee's pay schedule and in case you need to edit on more than one employee, you'll be prompted to have the changes made on all your employees.

2. Select the Employee Name to expand the view

3. Hit Edit to the right of the Employment Details section

4. Click on the Edit ✎ beside Pay Schedule

5. Enter the necessary changes and hit Save

Note;  You can checkmark the box to Use this pay schedule for employees you add after this one.
