Revenue Canada: Can a self employed business claim an expense for income tax paid ?

Hi there,

The great thing about being self-employed is that your taxes are relatively straightforward. QuickBooks Online will help provide you with all the information you need by generating tons of helpful reports and even tax form templates with predetermined calculations. I know how important it is to get the most money back at tax time as possible, and I'd be happy to point you in the right direction for help with this.

As a tech support agent, my specialty is assisting users on the ins-and-outs of the QuickBooks product. If you're looking for advice regarding accounting-related questions, that's something I'd recommend running by an accountant. These individuals are the best equipped to inform you about matters such as what you can claim on your tax return.

If you're not currently working with an accountant, you can find one in your area by searching here: Find a ProAdvisor. The best part about working with a ProAdvisor accountant is that they're specifically trained and certified in QuickBooks. They can also access your account directly to help assess your needs.

In the meantime, after a quick Google search, I was able to find the following information on Wealth Simple:

"You can reduce the amount of business income that you earned because the CRA allows the self employed the opportunity to deduct expenses from that income." (source found here).

You can explore the link provided above to see the full article. That's based on some preliminary research, so I'd still encourage you to run that by an accountant.

I hope that helps point you in the right direction.

Have a great day.
