A salaried employee wants to take unpaid time off...how do I pay a partial pay period?

Hi,

Thanks for reaching out to the QuickBooks community. I'll happily assist you with this. QuickBooks Online gives you access to two Payroll services, Standard Payroll and Advanced Payroll, which let you manage your employees' wages in a few simple steps. To record a partial pay period, follow these steps:

If you're using QuickBooks Online Standard payroll:

  1. Select Employees from the left menu
  2. Select Run Payroll
  3. Locate the employee you wish to pay
  4. Select the default salary amount in the SALARY column
  5. Select Adjust salary this time only
  6. Input how many hours you wish to be reduced from the current salary
  7. Select Apply
  8. Select Preview Payroll
  9. Select Submit Payroll
  10. Select Finish payroll

If you're using QuickBooks Online Advanced payroll:

  1. Select Employees from the left menu
  2. Select Run Payroll
  3. Select the pay group
  4. Input the hourly employees rates if needed
  5. Locate the salaried employee you wish to pay partially
  6. Edit the pay and hours as needed
  7. Select Next
  8. Select Approve

Let me know if you have any other questions.
