How can I activate an inactive employee in Standard Payroll

Hi there, 

 

Employees come and go, and it's important that your accounting software is flexible enough to adapt to all of your business changes. QuickBooks Online Payroll makes it easy for you to make employees active and inactive. I'd be happy to explain how to activate an inactive employee in Standard Payroll. 

 

Here's what you'll do: 

 

1. Click the Employees tab on the left menu.

2. Select Inactive Employees from the employee list drop-down menu. 

3. Click on the employee you want to make active.

4. Select Edit employee.

5. Choose the Employment tab.

6. Change their status to Active

7. Click Done.

 

Simple as that. I hope this helps get you back on the right track!

That's all fine and dandy but there is no employment tab

Hi gary_broom. The Employment tab is one of three tabs that appear at the top of the page when you click Edit employee. It'll give you the options of Pay, Profile, and Employment. If you're having any trouble finding this tab, feel free to call our tech support team so they can help you navigate the account to get this sorted out for you.

In order to make your employee active once more, I encourage you to try the steps mentioned above by Addie. If you run into any trouble, I recommend reaching out to our support team outside of the Community. They'll be able to view the error you're getting to be able to guide you with making your employee active again. Here are the ways to get in touch with them:

 

Phone: Call us at 1-855-253-1536 from Monday to Friday between the hours of 9 AM and 8 PM EST.
Schedule a Callback or start a Chat: click (?)Help in the upper right > type and enter "Contact support" into the QB Assistant > click Contact Us > explain your situation > click Let's Talk > choose Get a callback or Start a Chat
