If you're using the standard payroll, we're unable to automatically email paystubs to employees. You'll want to download it, then manually email it to your employees. 

 

Here's how:

  1. Go to Employees, then click Pay cheque list.
  2. Choose the paycheques, then click Print.
  3. Click the Download icon, then save the file.

However, if you're using the Advanced payroll, this option is available. You'll have to set it up on your employee's profile.

After updating to Quickbooks 19, the paystub gets sent as a .dat file, instead of .pdf.

How can we go back to .pdf like it was in version 18?

In QuickBooks Desktop 2019, the program is still configured to send emailed pay stubs as password-protected PDF file attachments. Since your employees are seeing a different file type, I recommend troubleshooting your email provider. We've had reports of Outlook changing the file type coming from Desktop as it sends. If you are using Outlook, check out this post from Microsoft's community about this: Outlook 2016 keeps changing PDF attachments to winmail.dat

When sending your pay stubs, it will be a password-protected file. This helps your employee's sensitive information like their SSN and email address protected.

 

The password are composed of their first three characters of their last name followed by their birth date. The format will be MMDDYYYY.
