Based on the official guidelines for QuickBooks Online, it is not possible to process direct deposits once the cutoff time has passed. Payroll offloads at exactly 5:00 PM PT according to your specific lead-time model. Once this deadline hits, the electronic transfer is queued with the banks and can no longer be accelerated.
You can refer to this article for additional information: Direct deposit processing timeline for QuickBooks Payroll.
If you need to ensure your team is paid on time, you can delete the pending direct deposits and recreate them as manual paper cheques. Please note that this only works if the paycheques haven’t offloaded yet. Ensure to check that the status is still on Pending under the Paycheque list tab.
Here’s how to delete the pending direct deposit:
- Navigate to the Payroll menu under All apps.
- Select Employees, and click on Paycheque list.

- Click the affected paycheques to open them.
- From the Make adjustments dropdown, click Delete.

Afterward, you can run payroll again. On the review screen, ensure to switch the Payment Method for each employee from Direct deposit to Paper cheque. This records the payroll correctly in your books while allowing you to pay your employees immediately via a physical cheque or e-Transfer.
