Hello Tatyana,
I'm glad to hear that you're already looking at taking care of your employee T4s. Submission time approaches fast, so it's always best to be ahead of the game. Knowing which QuickBooks Online payroll service you're using in these situations is helpful, but I'll outline the options for both below.
If you're using QuickBooks Online Standard Payroll, adding Box 34 to the T4s generated by the system means using the figures to create a T4 outside of QuickBooks. The Standard Payroll module doesn't give you the opportunity to edit the T4 information, so when you need to make changes, it's best to use it as a template of sorts for filling out a T4 form from another source, like the CRA. Here's how you can find the T4s in Standard Payroll.
The Payroll Tax area also shows you the T4 summary and the employer T4 slips. Learn more about T4s in Standard Payroll here: How to prepare T4 slips and summary
QuickBooks Online's Advanced Payroll service gives you a little more freedom with the T4 form, including editing it. Here are the steps you'll need.
With these steps, you can use an "other" box option to add the Box 34 details. I pulled those instructions from this article here: Year-end Guide: Information for Advanced Payroll

Thank you, Laura! I am using the Standard payroll. How can I upgrade to the Advanced version?
I don't see this option in my account. I have only the option to cancel the subscription but not to upgrade it.
Hi Tatyana,
I'd be happy to help you move from the Standard Payroll service to Advanced Payroll. You'll love the additional features and tools that become available to you when you upgrade to Advanced Payroll.
To transition from Standard Payroll to Advanced Payroll, follow these steps:
1. Cancel your current payroll subscription. You can do so by following the steps in this article.
2. Wait until the end of your cancelled payroll pay period.
3. Subscribe to QuickBooks Online Advanced Payroll by following the steps listed here: QuickBooks Online Advanced Payroll - Getting started.
NOTE: Keep in mind that previously-entered employee data will not carry over and you'll have to enter prior pay information manually at the time of set-up.
That's all there is to it. If you need a hand with this process, please reach out to our tech support team.
Have a nice day.
Thank you Laura,
I was reading " How to prepare T4 slips and summary" in https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-ca/employees-payroll/how-to-prepare-t4-slips-and-summ... , but i didn't find anything regarding adding box 34 or any other similar box.
Do we need to edit the PDF file after downloading it by this info and then submit to CRA ?
Thank you.
Hi Rifai. Glad to have you reach out to the Community. I'll be happy to share more info about the awesome payroll modules offered in QuickBooks. If you're using Standard Payroll you'd need to edit the T4 outside of QuickBooks. However, Advanced Payroll gives you the flexibility to edit your T4 within the program. My colleague, Laura has provided the steps above on how to edit your T4 using Advanced Payroll. Feel free to ask questions, I'm here to help.
Is Advanced Payroll available for QBO Canada?
Hi there ChrisSSNG,
It's vital you have the correct software to be able to run the payroll for your employee. QuickBooks Online is a great tool able to help you run payroll to be able to pay your employees for their hours worked. I can provide some information about payroll services.
Currently, within QuickBooks Online, there is only the ability to run payroll through our Standard payroll subscription. Advanced payroll powered by Wagepoint is no longer directly within the QuickBooks Online software, but you can sign up for payroll with similar features directly on Wagepoint's site. The payroll is run from within their site, but the payroll entries can be imported into QuickBooks Online by connecting to the Wagepoint app found in the Apps section of your QuickBooks account. For more information about the features of QuickBooks Online Payroll, you can view this page.
