Is there a workaround to working their files offline? I will be on a three day train ride and wish to work on my QuickBooks online clients during the journey.

Internet is spotty, I can connect to internet every now and then, but want to do the bank transactions for posting.

Hi, Taxman87. You can export your clients' bank transactions as a CSV or Excel file, allowing you to work on them offline—perfect for that three-day train ride with unstable internet.

QuickBooks Online is fully cloud-based, so there's no real offline access. But this workaround allows you to prepare everything in advance and sync quickly once you regain a signal.

Here's what you can do:

  1. Before you leave, download recent bank transactions as a CSV file directly from each client’s Bank transactions menu, and export any key reports you want to reference (such as the bank register or last reconciliation).
  2. When you're offline, open those files in Excel or another spreadsheet tool. Take note of each transaction, the account, category, customer/vendor, and any memos or splits for easier posting later.
  3. When you’re back online, sign in to QBO, refresh your bank feeds, and use your notes to categorize transactions. You can also set up bank rules and use QBO’s AI‑powered reconciliation to automate and speed up the process.

This way, you can handle the detailed review work offline and use your short windows of connectivity to sync, post, and reconcile efficiently.

Feel free to add a reply below if you have other concerns.
