Upgrade or downgrade your payroll plan

Here’s how to upgrade or downgrade your QuickBooks Payroll plan.

QuickBooks Online Payroll

Step 1: Choose a new plan

Check out the available plans to see which payroll service is right for you.

QuickBooks Payroll can grow with your business. If your payroll needs change, you can upgrade or downgrade your plan to suit your requirements.

Step 2: Upgrade or downgrade your plan

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as a primary or company admin.
  2. Select Settings ⚙ , then Subscriptions and billing.
  3. In the QuickBooks Online Payroll section, select Upgrade your plan or Downgrade your plan. If you don’t see this option, contact us for help with upgrading or downgrading. 
  4. Review the available plans, then select Choose plan.
  5. Follow the on-screen steps to upgrade your plan.


QuickBooks Online Payroll after March 2025

Step 1: Choose a new plan

Step 2: Upgrade or downgrade your plan

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as a primary or company admin.
  2. Select Settings ⚙ , then Subscriptions and billing.
    In the QuickBooks Online Payrollsection, select Upgrade your plan or Downgrade your plan. If you don’t see this option, contact us for help with upgrading or downgrading.
  3. Review the available plans, then select Choose plan.
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to upgrade your plan; or follow the onscreen steps to downgrade your plan.

If you are downgrading your QuickBooks Online Payroll plan, you can expect your downgrade to become effective on your billing date.
