Error 1310: Error writing to file...

Perform these troubleshooting steps if you're installing a new version or updating QuickBooks Desktop and you get:

  • Error writing to file C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks 20xx\BusinessObjectProvider.dll
  • Error "1310: Error writing to file: C:Config.Msi..."

Solution 1: Download and install the QuickBooks Tools Hub

The QuickBooks Tools Hub helps fix common errors. QuickBooks needs to be closed to use the tool hub.

Solution 2: Toggle the User Account Control settings

Solution 3: Re-register the Microsoft Windows installer

  1. Select the Windows Start menu.
  2. Type msiexec /unreg in the search field and press Enter.
  3. Select the Windows Start menu.
  4. Type msiexec /regserver in the search field and press Enter.
  5. Try installing QuickBooks

Solution 4: Use the Command Prompt to manually assign full administrator access to the installer

Important:

  • Consult an IT person or System Administrator if you're not comfortable performing this steps.
  • Perform the steps on the folder referenced to the error message received. The steps outlined in this section uses "Config.Msi" as an example.
  1. Go to Windows Start menu, look for All Programs then choose Accessories.
  2. Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.
  3. In the Command Prompt window, type in icacls "C:\Config.Msi" /T /C /grant administrators:F.
    Note: Change Config.Msi to the folder referenced on the error you received.
  4. Press Enter and exit the command prompt.
  5. Install QuickBooks.
