Automatically match QuickBooks Online product transactions

SOLVEDby QuickBooks10Updated 3 weeks ago

Learn how QuickBooks Online automatically matches your QuickBooks Payroll and QuickBooks Payments, and how you can manage automatic matching.

Instead of manually matching each transaction, QuickBooks can do this work for you by automatically matching:

You can find and view details on automatically matched transactions in Bank transactions (Take me there) under the Categorized tab.

Automatic matching increases the accuracy of your books. We suggest leaving it on to save you time, and to help avoid mistakes that can become a hassle at tax season.

Note: Automatic matching may not be available in all accounts yet.

Manage automatic matching

You can turn automatic matching off or on at any time.

  1. Go to Transactions and select Bank transactions (Take me there).
  2. Select the Categorized tab.
  3. Select Settings ⚙ at the top of the transaction list.
  4. Turn the Automatic matching switch On or Off.

Automatic matching for QuickBooks Payments

The Automatic matching setting applies to all transactions created through QuickBooks products, such as QuickBooks Payroll, and QuickBooks Payments. Changing it will only affect future transactions.

When automatic matching is off, you’ll need to manually match any new transactions.

What happens when QuickBooks isn't able to automatically match

QuickBooks may not automatically match all your transactions. For example, your bank may not provide a unique ID for each payment. In such cases, QuickBooks won’t automatically match and will leave it for you to manually match the bank transactions.
