Delete sales tax rates and agencies in QuickBooks Online
by Intuit•4• Updated 5 months ago
Currently, there is no way to delete a tax rate or a tax agency in QuickBooks Online. If you no longer need or use them, you can deactivate the tax rate or rename the tax agency.
Note: | If you don't see the settings below, you may be using Auto Sales Tax feature. See Set up and use Automated Sales Tax for more information. |
Deactivate a tax rate
Important: You CANNOT reactivate a tax rate. If you need it for future use, you’ll have to create a new one.
Note: You can't deactivate default sales tax rates created when adding additional provinces. You can only deactivate sales tax rates that you created. |
- Go to Taxes and select Sales tax (Take me there).
- Select Manage sales tax.
- On the Tax agencies tab, locate the tax agency associated with the sales tax rate you wish to make inactive.
- Select Make inactive in the Actions column next to the rate you wish to make inactive.
- You'll know the sales tax rate has been deactivated when you see Make active in the Actions column for that sales tax rate.
To reactivate the sales tax rate at any time, select Make active in the Action column.
Rename a tax agency
- Go to Taxes, then select Sales tax (Take me there).
- Select Manage sales tax.
- Select Edit agency settings, then edit Tax agency name.
Note: You can edit only a custom tax agency created by you. - Select Save.
