Pro Tax T1 family returns
by Intuit•1• Updated 1 year ago
You can link families returns in ProTax by either creating a new or opening an existing return, and clicking on Link spouse or dependent.
A dropdown menu will appear where you can select the following:
- Relationship: Spouse or dependent.
- Select Client: This automatically populates your clients.
- Select Return: If a return already exists for either the spouse or dependent, it’ll appear here. Otherwise, you will have the option to create a new return.
Once linked, the link title will change and it’ll instead display the option to manage the returns under the Manage linked returns link. You can link additional returns by clicking on the +Link another return option, or you can unlink returns by clicking on the unlink icon to the right of the linked return.

The Pro Tax client dashboard will change indicating which returns are linked. The primary taxpayer (the return you link the others to) will appear at the top of the tree list with a family icon to the left of the name, with spouse and/or dependents appearing under it indented.
You may choose to open any return in any order. Once the return is open, you can access the other linked returns, by either:
- Clicking on the quick links displayed, or
- Clicking on the Manage linked returns link and select which return you want to view
