Note: All preparers are advised to review their returns.
CRA identified an error in the original versions of their Schedule 8 (5000-S8) and RC381.
During certain situations, the calculation on these forms may result in an underpayment of base CPP/QPP and level 1 (ECPP1/EQPP1) contributions and an overpayment of level 2 (ECPP2/EQPP2) contributions where there is an overall underpayment.
This issue specifically impacted the calculation of line 22215 (Deduction for CPP or QPP enhanced contributions on employment income) on tax returns.
We have released an update to correct these forms. The following lines have been updated with revised instructions:
Schedule 8, Part 3, Line 38:
- Previous Instruction: "If line 25 is "0", enter the amount from line 24 (if any) and continue at line 43."
- Corrected Instruction: "If line 25 is positive or "0", enter the amount from line 24 (if any) and continue at line 43."
Schedule RC381:
- Previous Instruction: "If line 68 is "0", enter the amount from line 67 (if any) and continue at line 86."
- Corrected Instruction: "If line 68 is positive or "0", enter the amount from line 67 (if any) and continue at line 86."
