ProFile users encounter a "End of stream" error message

An "End of stream error" message is generally caused due to a network or system disruption when ProFile is trying to save the return. A variation of the error includes: "Offset and length were out of bounds for the array or count is greater than the number of elements from index to the end of the source collection".

Attempt to open either the backup (*.T1B) or Autosave file (*.T1A):

   1. Select the "Open" option from the "File" drop-down menu in the top toolbar.

The "Open file" window displays.

   2. Select the "[YYYY] ProFile T1 Backup" option in the "Files of type" drop-down field:

In the event of the back-up or the Autosave not being available:

  •  right-click on the file and check the size: if the file is under 10KB it is unrecoverable
  •  if the file is over 10KB, open MS Notepad from the Windows "Start" menu

  1. Select the "Open" option under the "File" top toolbar menu.

The "Open file" window displays.

  2. Select the "All Files" option in the "Files of type" drop-down field.

  3. Open the ProFile return.

  4. Confirm that there is content.

Note: the content should contain English characters. If it is in another language, the file is unrecoverable

Recovery Options

If not a lot of work has been tone to the return, it will be faster to simply re-do the work, as the attempt to recover returns may take several days.

If the return needs to be recovered, and is over 10KB in size, call 1-800-452-9970 to submit the file for recovery. Note that this is not a guaranteed process, and the return may ultimately need to be recreated.
