Troubleshooting Proreg issues

Sometimes - typically during updates or while carrying forward a return from a competitor’s software - a ProFile module may not be properly registered in the Windows registry.

ProFile has a module registry application that communicates with the Windows registry, and registers each year and module with Windows, allowing ProFile to open/create returns:

Despite being on the most recent software version, ProFile users might not see the option to create the current year tax return in the drop-down menu in the top toolbar:

Resolution

The module is not properly registered.

Refer to the “How to run Proreg” article for resolution.

When trying to create a new return, a DAX error displays:

Note: if trying to create a new FX file and the option is not available, check the license first. The FX license must be entered for the module to appear in the file menu.

When carrying forward T2 competitor files, ProFile might not identify the correct year. This will still allow the customer to create a return, however, ProFile will generate a warning concerning the corporation’s taxation year.

A customer is preparing the tax return with the year-end May 04, 2016. They are in the latest version, but is receiving the following warning message, “year-end not supported” and is not able to EFILE the tax return:

A ProFile user finds an error to be on the start date of the taxation year instead of on the end date:

Resolution

This generally happens when trying to carry forward a competitor’s file; ProFile will try to open the returns in the most current module.

To force the software into opening the returns in the correct module:

1. Open Proreg and de-select the years after 2005:

2. Open ProFile.

3. Carry the return forward again.
