Manage billing, payment, and subscription info in QuickBooks Online

Learn how you manage your QuickBooks Online subscription, whether you need to update the card on file, change your subscription, or just view your billing history.

Learn about your subscription

You can pay for your subscription with Mastercard, Visa, Discover Card, or American Express, and even set up Direct Debit.

Update or change your payment method

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as a primary admin.
  2. Select Settings ⚙, then Account and settings.
  3. Select Billing & Subscription.
  4. Next to your payment method, select Edit ✎.
  5. Update your credit card info.
  6. Review the address for your credit card. It must be the same one that appears on your credit card statements.
  7. When you're done, select Confirm card or Save.

View your payment history

  1. Sign in as a primary admin.
  2. Select Settings ⚙ in the top right, and then Account and settings.
  3. Select the Billing & Subscription tab.
  4. In the QuickBooks Online tile, select View payment history.

Change your billing schedule

QuickBooks Online offers monthly and annual billing for Essentials, EasyStart, and Plus.

When you’re ready, here’s how to change your payment schedule. After completing the steps below, we’ll send you an email to let you know about your new plan details.

If you are subscribed to a QuickBooks Online plan:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as a primary admin.
  2. Go to Settings ⚙, then Account and settings.
  3. Select Billing & Subscription.
  4. Select Switch to monthly billing or Switch to annual billing.
  5. Select Switch, then select OK, got it.

Upgrade or Downgrade your subscription

How do I remove myself from my Accountant's wholesale discount plan?

You can remove your self as long as you are the Primary admin. You'll need to go to Billing & Subscription, then select Transfer billing to myself.  If you need to, you can request to be the primary admin.

Note: If you want to continue the benefit of wholesale pricing, you must be added to another accounting firm within 60 days.


We do our best to ensure things run smoothly, but sometimes small technical issues occur. Below are some error messages you might see when you update billing details.

  • Something's not quite right.
  • It looks like there was a problem on our end. Select Save again.
  • Blank page/screen (unable to enter billing details).
  • Subscription-error billing.

The good news is we can fix this. When you update billing and subscription details:

  • Ensure that all Billing & Subscription fields are completed.
  • Verify credit card details.
  • Confirm that the address for the credit card matches the address in your QuickBooks settings. The addresses must match.

If you are still receiving an error message or are unable to update your billing details, clear your cache and cookies.
