I use QB Desktop Pro 2018. From QB help I am informed that:-
A. go to Company menu - go to Company Information - select month - Fiscal Year drop down- PROBLEM- no "Company Information in my Company menu drop down selection- does not work !!!!
B. go to Preferences - go to My Company - select month ... There is nothing in My Preferences for changing a year end
You're on the right track with the steps you've described in option A. I'll clarify what you're seeing so you can enter in the information you need to set your fiscal year date range.
As you've noticed, the Report Information section of the Company Information screen talks about the "First month" in your fiscal year. QuickBooks Desktop registers the first month that your fiscal year starts and, when you do, it automatically understands when your fiscal year ends. For instance, if your fiscal year ends in April, pick May for the first month of your fiscal year. Or if December is the end of your fiscal year, pick January as the first month. Check out my screenshot below.
Learn more about how the fiscal year in QuickBooks Desktop by going to QuickBooks Desktop Help through the Help menu or by hitting F1. Click the Help tab and then Search to bring up the search bar. Type "fiscal year" and read the related articles.

I must be "stupid"- I can't explain my issue to the QB community.
I have reached out to many experts- you are the 3rd- I AM NOT GOING TO GIVE UP !!!!!!!!!!!
I believe I can successfully change the year end I have understood most of what you have explained to me- thank you.
However, you have assumed I can find the "Company Information" window- if you read my issue at inception- I CAN'T FIND THE COMPANY INFORMATION window- all the advice to date has told me it is in the down menu from My Company on the task bar and it isn't. Someone told me its the 2nd one down- it isn't- it is "Company Shapshot"
The issue is- how do I get to the "COMPANY INFORMATION window
I see what you're saying now. I had thought you meant you got to the company information window, but it wasn't giving you the information you need. I can absolutely help you get there, though. Here's how you find it, with a screenshot to give you a visual.
The Company menu is broken into sections, and the Company Information part is in the third section. I've hovered over it in my screenshot to make sure it's highlighted.
Once you click that, you'll come to the screen from my first image. Let me know if that helps.

When I follow your instructions and click on My Company in the task bar- I get a drop down menu that is exactly the same as your BUT FOR under LEAD CENTRE and above SET UP USERS AND PASSWORD you have COMPANY INFORMATION and I get MY COMPANY and in my MY COMPANY window there is no REPORT INFORMATION section.

I'm following what you're saying and want to do what I can to help sort this out. Can you let me know what you do see on that screen? It's even better if you can include a screenshot — just blank out your company's information. What I'm looking for are the various fields available, like in my first screenshot to you.
If you can tell me how to do a screenshot I'll send.
The window I get has 5 sub windows:-
1. Company Information - names, address etc.
2. Manage Your ACCOUNT- order , payment, history, account details
3. PRODUCT INFORMATION- product name, license number, activation date etc.
4. Manage Your App.s, Subscription, Services
5. App.s, Services & Subscriptions Recommended fo
Thanks for letting me know. I think the image would be beneficial in this instance since what you're mentioning here isn't ringing any bells for me. There are a few ways to take screenshots on Windows computers. I've found an article that has step-by-step instructions with images to help you out. Check out How-To Geek's How to Take Screenshots in Windows 10. If that doesn't work for you, or you're using a different operating system, I recommend searching Google for some steps.

Don't worry, I've got a copy of the image for myself so I can look at it. I've looked up your license number and see that it's for an American version of QuickBooks Desktop. This is why what you're seeing is different than what myself and other agents have described and why what you're seeing isn't matching my screenshots.

I am going to assume that you have found out how to do this, but if not you go to the Company tab on the top banner and click "My Company" and the box will open then click the pencil in the upper right hand corner to edit the info and then it gives you options and Fiscal Year End is one of them. Click that and you will be able to change your fiscal year end!!! I found it by accident after finding this thread and still not getting the answer...
