I need to filter a report to know how much GST I paid for certain accounts by class. I've tried a couple of different methods, but the one that's gotten me the closest is to run a detailed P&L, filter by "multiple accounts" and "class" then add the "sales tax amount" column. However, this gives me the total sales tax amount including PST, and I need only GST. How do I refine this to show GST only?
Hi lawrenanne1,
It's great to see you in Community. Welcome back! Having the report you need to display specific data is a great way to see the information at a glance. QuickBooks Desktop offers several reports along with the option to customize them as needed. I'd be happy to assist!
The Expense by Vendor Detail report will show items such as your expenses, allowing the option to add other columns including, but not limited to, the sales tax code. In addition, you can search for other reports by typing in the key word 'expenses' to see a list of other related reports for the best fit. Here's a helpful article for customizing reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

Thanks, Trish. I need to extract *all* GST paid, though, whether it was paid under "G" (gst only) or as part of "S" (PST & GST combined), so it's more than just running an expense on a tax code. I've jerry-rigged a report by running a Detailed P&L report, filtering to see only relevant expense accounts and class, and showing columns for amount and gross amount. I can get GST totals for each account by subtracting the “amount” column from the “gross amount” column. But a more elegant way of doing this would be nice.
Hi lawrenanne1,
Thanks for getting back to me here. With the variety of available reports in QuickBooks Desktop and their customization options, I'd like to further suggest taking a look at the Tax Agency Detail report. Here's how;
1. Select Reports from the menu
2. Choose Vendors & Payables
3. Open the Tax Agency Detail report
4. Choose the Report Date Range
5. Add your preferred columns to include, Type, Tax Code etc.
6. Hit OK to run the report
7. Use the ▼ dropdown menu to select the Tax Agency
This should be the more 'elegant' way to view the information needed in a more fashionable manner.
I hope you find this to be helpful. We're here if you have additional questions!
