I am trying to export a balance sheet to excel, and keep getting an error message saying "file is corrupt and cannot open"

Hi there,

Exporting reports like your Balance Sheet into Excel from QBO is so simple and requires just a few steps. I know how important it is to ensure you can export the Balance Sheet without running into any issues. I'd be happy to explain how to resolve the error message you're getting regarding a corrupt file.

The first step will be to complete some browser troubleshooting to ensure the corruption in the file isn't coming from QBO. Typically, these types of errors would originate in the Excel document itself, but it doesn't hurt to rule out browser-related bugs.

Try clearing the cache and cookies in your web browser to remove any stored Internet files. These stored files can cause bugs in QBO and other sites. Here's how to clear them: Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online

If the issue persists, try using an Incognito window in Google Chrome. This is a private browsing mode that operates separately from the main browser, and it doesn't get impacted by stored cache and cookies. Here's more information about that and how to use it: Browse in Private. You should also try using multiple different browsers to get things back on track.

If you've completed this troubleshooting, the next step will be to try and repair the file from Excel's side. In this case, I'd encourage you to reach out to Excel support, but here's an article that will help get you started: Repairing a corrupted workbook

I hope this helps get you back on track. If you have any other questions, our tech support team is standing by to help.

Have a great day.
