I cannot find anywhere to give an inventory product a unit of measurement such as "feet", or "5 pack" or "each" and so on. Can anyone direct me to where I can do that?

Hello colin-harris1950,

I can see the benefit of being able to change the unit of measure on your QuickBooks account and I'll be happy to share more info. Since this feature isn't available, I encourage you to send feedback about it to our product developers. To do this, click on the Gear icon and look for Feedback. New product improvements are based on the valuable feedback we get from users like you.

In the meantime, feel free to ask other questions, I'm here to help you achieve your QuickBooks goals. :)

What kind of business do you run? A retail company/wholesaler or a manufacturing company? You need a 3rd party app.

Thanks for the reply. I run a retail service business (off grid solar power installations and sales)

Why do you need the unit measurement feature? You should only need to job cost materials used from inventory. The dimension should be part of the item name and you can manage the quantity of inventory in units

I could go into my inventory and change the description of every item to include the unit that it is bought and sold in but that is a huge job. I imported my products and services from another program that did have units in it so I would have to edit over 1000 entries. Can you elaborate on your comment "manage the quantity of inventory in units"

If you are using a construction management app, you can allocate inventories like this one

I just want to use QuickBooks Online - I shouldn't have to buy and use another app to handle inventory. It is the reason why I pay for QuickBooks Online Plus - to get the inventory control. Every other decent accounting app with inventory has "units", in fact even QuickBooks desktop has it so I fail to understand why the Online version does not. I have sent it in as feedback and hopefully someone is listening at Intuit. It just seems like such an oversight.
