I have a letter from a lawyer to the CRA for a client that states "client paid X for legal fees during 2020". Is this a deduction and where would it go on the T1?

On the "Other deductions" screen under Carrying charges there is a line to deduct Legal fees incurred to collect support payments.  Under "Other Employment expenses" there is a line to deduct Legal expenses to collect salary or wages.  So, it depends what the legal fees were incurred for.

Just to add here to Janis answer, CRA has information on legal fees here

Hope this helps
