Mileage doesn't show value

Hi there Jordan,

The mileage tracking feature in the QuickBooks Self-Employed app is awesome! It automatically records your work trips to make it easier for you to write them off. However, it's important that you're seeing the correct data. Let me go over some steps you can take to ensure that you've set up the mileage tracking feature correctly and some options to troubleshoot.

First, make sure that auto-tracking is turned on in the QuickBooks Self-Employed app. Here's how:

  1. Navigate to the Menu ☰ icon.
  2. Go the the Mileage menu.
  3. Select and turn on Auto-tracking. You may need to select Allow and then Allow all the time to let the app run in the background.

To ensure that the app keeps tracking your trips even when you're in slow-moving traffic, simply navigate to your Settings, then Mileage Settings, and turn on Track slow speed trips. Once you've turned on these features, QuickBooks automatically detects and tracks your trips from start to finish as long as you have your mobile device on you with the QuickBooks Self-Employed app opened. Refer to this article to learn more about categorizing, editing, and deleting your trips.

There are several troubleshooting steps that you should follow once you're sure you have the mileage tracking feature set up correctly. Depending on whether you're using Android or iOS, please refer to one of the articles below:

If after trying the steps in the article above, you're still unable to see the value of your trip with the mileage tracking feature, I suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the QuickBooks Self-Employed mobile app. Once it's reinstalled and you've logged back in, all of your existing data will appear and you'll be ready to work on your books once again. This is an effective way to resolve app-related issues and is a good step to try any time you experience a problem.

I also want to introduce you to a workaround that will allow you to manually enter your trips yourself. From an iOS device, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Mileage menu.
  2. Choose the Plus icon (+) and then Create trip.
  3. Enter the trip details and select Save when done.

From an Android device, here's what you'll need to do:

  1. Select the Menu ☰ icon.
  2. Choose the Mileage menu.
  3. From the Plus icon (+), select Add business trip.
  4. Enter the trip details and select Save when done.

Have a fantastic day!
