Payroll tables update

I do bookkeeping for a non for profit organization that is using QuickBooks Desktop 2019 and has an active subscription to payroll, however the payroll updates are not working. I have tried the automated update and even reset the updates. I would upload something manually but I can not find it anywhere.  The client is not in a position to upgrade their software as it was donated, and I am a lost to help. Any suggestions would be helpful.  Currently entering employees expenses as vendors and manually calculating payroll each week, and relying on excel to generate paystubs, I really don't want to do this at T4 slip time. The previous bookkeeper did it this way, so I hope there is a solution.

Payroll tables update

Hi MamaShay.

You write that the client is not in a position to upgrade their software. If they qualify, as a not for profit organization, for purchases through TechSoup, then the annual cost is very low so I'd check into that. Look for the Bundle as that looks to include payroll.

Alternatively, I'd also look at what you are paying for the "active payroll subscription". How much different is it for an updated subscription for QBD2021 + Payroll? There is always a trade-off when it comes to spending money, would you be able to use your time differently if they upgrade?

And finally, as long as you have a functional payroll module (even if updates are not applied), you can always create the cheques in there and adjust any deductions manually. Sounds like you're already calculating those but you might find the CRA online calculator helpful. While you end up entering everything twice, using the calculator and then adjusting manually in QBD, this will let you run T4s at the end of the year. PD7A reporting and remittance review will also work, saving you additional time. Note, while this method works in general, you'll still have to manually calculate individual payroll for any periods the CRA wants specific reporting (Code 57-60 for 2020), so I'd focus on getting the upgrade if at all possible.

Payroll tables update

Hi MamaShay.

Having your payroll tax table up to date is imperative to keeping your payroll and accounts correct. I'd be happy to help you get your tax table updated.

QuickBooks Desktop Payroll add on makes getting your employees paid a quick process that does the calculations for you. Every year there are two tax table updates. One on January 1st and again on July 1st. Every July first update requires you to have the newest version of QuickBooks for it to download and install. Since you are using QuickBooks Desktop 2019 those updates wouldn't be available as you would need the 2021 version. Should your client wish to upgrade at some point they can either purchase a new version outright with payroll at a retail store or they can visit our website for more options.

If you have any questions let us know and we'd be happy to help!
