Just wow - 2024 it was $47 month, 2025 $70 and todays notice $105 !! another whopping 50% jump in pricing - and that does not include payroll (now $60 month add on) or the ridiculous PER PAYROLL USER added fee which is just a money grab there zero reason for this fee - on top of the monthly payroll fee.
I understand annual increases but these are just gouging the customer.
I agree completely, maybe it's time for an alternative.
You can switch to an old version of QB Desktop with a non-subscription license to lower costs. However, you'll need to use a third-party payroll app later.
Agreed, this is outrageous! Is Intuit trying to force us to use QBO? If so, I will have to find an alternative because QBO does not work for me. Tried it about 2 years ago and found it to be useless for what I need.
There are probably lots of folks like me who have been loyal customers for many years (since the '90s in my case) and who now feel betrayed. Gouging is an understatement.
Does anyone have any suggestions for alternatives that will work in Canada? Thank you.

You can use old QB Desktop + 3rd party payroll app (optional) to lower your costs. You should conact @Fiat Lux - ASIA directly via email for details.
Thanks for your suggestion. If it makes finding an alternative easier, I do not need payroll. But I do rely on submitting HST reports to CRA.
How would a backwards export of the company file work? Could I export back to say QB Pro 2021?
I agree. Been using quick books desktop since the 90's as well.
As I know you can use the trial version of QB Desktop 2024 to file your return.
Hello, RalphB. Downgrading a QBDT company file directly to an older version isn't supported. While you can upgrade data from older versions to newer ones, the structure changes during the process and is not backward compatible.
To revert to a version like QBDT Pro 2021, you would need to create a new company file and manually export/import your lists or consider using a third-party conversion service.
However, please note that there is no guarantee that all of the data upgraded to a newer version can be recovered or accessed when moving back to an older version. Manual exports are limited to basic lists and do not include full transaction history. Always verify the integrity of your data and keep a backup of your original files before proceeding.

Thank you Jayson. With 30+ years of data, that is not an option I want t to gamble with.
