Re: How do get the left navigation bar back? It is missing.

I did this accidentally by clicking the sign in the upper left (3 horizontal bars), then clicking it again to get the menu back.

Hi kristen-shewchuk,

Thanks for joining us here in the QuickBooks Online community! I can definitely help you get your navigation bar back on the left-hand side. QuickBooks Online gives you the option to see or not see that sidebar by clicking the three-lined menu at the top left of the screen. That way, you can free up some space on your screen in case you need to see more data. This can be useful for reports, which sometimes expand wide depending on what you're viewing.

Here's a screenshot so you can see exactly where I mean to toggle the navigation bar.

Give it a try and let me know how it goes. Stop by again if you need anything else!

Pressing the 3 horizontal bars does not restore the left navigation bar

Re: How do get the left navigation bar back? It is missing.

If pressing the 3 bars icon does not restore the left navigation menu, I suggest clearing the browser’s cache and cookies by following the steps in this article. This process will delete old files from your system and fix loading issues on most websites. Keep in mind that QuickBooks Online only supports the following browsers: Google Chrome, FireFox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari. You can see the system Requirements for QuickBooks Online here.

If you're still having the same issue, call our phone support team at 1-855-253-1536 for more troubleshooting. Our agents are available Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST.

Hello, I have tried clicking on the 3 bars to get the side bar back but nothing happens. Is there any other way to do this?

Okay, so Microsoft 11 is not on the supported browser list.  Yet we need to use E11 to get the download for Desktop transfer or backup?  When I am in E11, no sidebar.  Please advise.

Thank you for joining this thread, Queen Bee 53.

Have you tried the solution shared by my colleague WassimO?

When QuickBooks Online (QBO) has unexpected behavior, it is recommended to use a private browser. Cache tends to hold onto information and, after a while, it can cause issues in the web pages.

Here's how:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: press Command Shift N

If it works, you can go back to regular browsing and clear the browser's cache.

However, if the left navigation bar is still not showing, please try switching a different browser. Keep in mind that QBO works best using Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge and Safari 11 or newer.

To learn more about the supported computer and browser in QBO, refer to this article: System requirements for QuickBooks Online, Accountant, and Self-Employed.

You may also want to download our QBO Desktop app, so you can easily access the data. Please the following link to learn more and to download it: Get QuickBooks Mac & Windows Apps, Powered by QuickBooks Online.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I'll be here and ready to help anytime. Have a good one.

For some reason Internet Explorer no longer works properly with Intuit online. I switched to Google’s Chrome and it works fine. Using Chrome also improved the check writing feature.

Re: How do get the left navigation bar back? It is missing.

Thank you for sharing your observation about using QuickBooks in Chrome, DavidByron! I also prefer this browser when working in QuickBooks.

Since March 18, 2019, we’ve already discontinued supporting Internet Explorer 11 and its older versions for QBO. They are already obsolete, and Microsoft had also announced to replace them with Edge on Windows 10 computers.

You can see the list of supported browsers in this article: System requirements for QuickBooks Online, Accountant, and Self-Employed. It also includes the list for mobile devices.

We'd love hearing more of your experiences here! Feel free to share them.

Have a nice day!

Then I would suggest abandoning using Explorer 11 as the only way to transfer from online to Desktop.

Re: How do get the left navigation bar back? It is missing.

I am trying to download files from QBO to desktop and the left navigation pane is missing in IE11, which I am told by QB is the only browser I can use.  What is the solution to this?

Hi Becky. When was the last time you cleared cache and cookies on your browser? Doing this will help fix most issues the site may be having. Here's an article which shows you how to do that: How to clear Cache and Cookies. Give this a try and let me know how you make out. Otherwise, I recommend using a different browser such as Chrome or Firefox. Feel free to ask questions.

Same problem here.  Yes, I've cleared the cache.  Yes, I've tried other browsers.  Please read what everyone above has said - IE does not work properly, IE is no longer supported, and yet you require us to use IE to download a QB Desktop file.  Please tell us how to solve this problem that you've created.

Re: How do get the left navigation bar back? It is missing.

Hello MattL1,

Thanks for sharing your concerns and I hope to shed light on this situation. In QuickBooks Online Canada, there is no QuickBooks Desktop file that can be downloaded as converting from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop. Exporting lists such as customer and vendor lists from QuickBooks Online to import into QuickBooks Desktop is possible, but there's no way to make a full conversion at this time.

If you're using QuickBooks Online US and having this issue, I recommend reaching out to our US support team for help. You can do so by switching the flag in the upper portion of this page and making a new post in the US part of community, or your can find out ways to reach support through the (?)Help menu in QuickBooks Online.

For QuickBooks Canada, learn more about exporting from QuickBooks Online and importing into QuickBooks Desktop here: How to convert QB online to QB desktop?
