Unable to Register QB 2015 on Windows 10 Machine

Hello,

I'm attempting to move my QB 2015 Pro application from a Windows 7 machine into a freshly installed Windows 10 machine.

I've successfully moved the application (some updates notwithstanding) along with the datafile.  The problem is with the Product Registration Card that pops up each time I launch the QB application.

The Product Registration Card prompts for information name and address along with some other user specific data. Once all that data has been entered, an error message appears indicating that the 'registration process did not finish' and I'm to 'try to register again'.

I've tried again... on numerous occasions. Any suggestions, thoughts and ideas are welcome.

Thanks,

Rob Donald

Unable to Register QB 2015 on Windows 10 Machine

Hello LauraAB,

I was successful getting QB 2015 registered by following your instructions.  I called the help line and they were able to provide the Validation Code and Customer Number.

Many thanks for that.

I'll respond separately to your response to my second question.

Cheers,

Rob

Unable to Register QB 2015 on Windows 10 Machine

Hello Rob,

I'm glad to hear you were able to install QuickBooks 2015 on your Windows 10 system. I saw you posted twice here in community, each with mostly the same, but slightly different information. I'll get you all the answers in this one post to make sure you know what you need to do moving forward.

I'll start with the registration. Since you have an older and unsupported version of QuickBooks Desktop, going through the usual registration process for the program won't work. Don't worry, there's still a way to get your product activated so you can get to work. If you happen to have the activation code from when you installed and registered the product previously, you can still used that code. Just follow these steps.

  1. Click the Help menu in the top toolbar.
  2. Choose About QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. When the logo appears on the screen, press CTRL + R + P on your keyboard.
  4. Enter the activation/validation code into the appropriate field.
  5. Click OK or Activate (the wording may vary) to complete the process.

If you don't have that activation/validation code, that's okay! Our support agents can help. Although 2015 is no longer a supported version, the agent can still provide you with the code. They just won't be able to troubleshoot if there are any issues with it.

On that note, let's move on to your question about installing the updates for the program. It's great that you're seeing the option to do so and seem to be able to go through the process. With older versions of the program, we can't guarantee that these processes are still going to be successful. As I mentioned above, we can't really troubleshoot these issues either because we won't be able to determine if what's happening is simply because of the age of the program.

That being said, you can check the following article to see if it's useful for getting you back on track: Which Windows 10 version works best for QuickBooks Desktop? The .NET Framework section in particular is important for QuickBooks overall functionality. Users with the 4.8 .NET Framework have been experiencing issues with running the program, and we've been recommending to customers to have an IT or Microsoft professional help with uninstalling that version and going to a lower one. If you're on the 4.8 .NET, that could be contributing to issues.

For seamless use of the program, upgrading to the latest version is the optimal situation. QuickBooks Desktop 2020 may even have the kinds of features you've been looking for or ones that will help your business bookkeeping run more smoothly. Check them out here: What's new in QuickBooks Desktop 2020

I know you have to make the best decision for you business, so I recommend getting in touch with QuickBooks Desktop support to learn more about what would happen if you were to upgrade and how to do so if you'd like to. You can contact that same support team if you'd like to stick with 2015 and simply get the activation code. Hi Rob,

That's awesome! I'm glad you were able to activate the product. I've responded on the other thread in regards to the looping update issue.

Have a great rest of your day!
