Restoring a Backup File Error

My accountant made changes to my company file and gave me a backup copy to work from going forward.  When I try to open the file I keep getting an error message that I need to upgrade my Quickbooks to the latest version.  I'm running Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2021 and have the latest update.  What do I need to do to be able to use this file?

Restoring a Backup File Error

Your accountant is using QB Desktop 2022 Pro or Premier, and has upgraded your file. Your accountant must use QBD Accountant 2021 or 2022 edition to manage your file. You may have only 2 options:

1. Purchase a new license for QB Desktop 2022 to open the file

2. Ask your accountant to purchase a new one time (outright) license for QBD 2021 and redo the work.

Restoring a Backup File Error

Hi jmitchell1310.

Restoring a back up file is a quick and easy process made so you can always restore a file incase of a mistake or even just moving to a new computer. I'd be happy to help go over what the error message is from.

When receiving this error message it means that your accountant updated the company to a year that is higher than the one you currently use. In this case it means they are most likely using QuickBooks Desktop 2022 which can only be opened by other version of QuickBooks Desktop 2022. In cases like this there are three options that you can do. First like what Fiat stated you can upgrade to QuickBooks Desktop pro 2022 so you can open it. This can be done by setting up a subscription from our website here. Another option is having your accountant make these changes in QuickBooks Desktop 2021 so you can open it in your current version. Finally the last option is sending your Accountant an accountants copy which lets them make the changes in 2022 and send it back to you to work with in 2021. This feature allows you're accountant to open, make changes and send it back to you with the changes ready to be made. You can learn more about accountant copies from this article.

If you have any questions let us know and we'd be happy to help.

@Alan Shepard

If you are a credible company, you need to make your website tidy. Otherwise, we suspect you just need an ignorant to call your number and get scammed.
