The employeed doesn't have email.
Yes, it works, Gary. The Not yet invited status means the invite wasn't successfully sent via text. You can send the invite again through a private browser or incognito mode. Let's get into the details.
Occasionally, QuickBooks encounters difficulties with certain features, such as sending invites to your employees, due to an excess of cached files in your browser. With this, let's perform a browser troubleshooting process to fix it.
First, restart your browser. Then, log in to your account in a private browser and send an employee invite through text from there. You can use these keyboard shortcuts to launch a new private window:
If it fixes the issue, go back to the regular browser and clear the cache. Doing this will eliminate outdated files or data that cause system issues and glitches. Otherwise, you can use another supported browser.
Also, ensure that the employee's phone number details are correct.
If the status remains unchanged, contact our Live Support Team so they can securely check your account and further review why the via-text invite isn't working.
Once you've successfully sent the invites to your employees and they receive it, make sure they accept the invites. Check out these articles for future reference about granting permissions and managing time entries:

Thanks for your response. I normally use Chrome, so at your suggestion, I tried a Private browsing window and tried deleting the cache in a regular window. Neither worked so I tried the same things in Microsoft Edge. Neither of those worked either.

The issue has been resolved (somewhat). I didn't realize that users cannot access QuickBooks Workforce by mobile number alone. Each person has to have an email address in their account (unique from any other user). QuickBooks Support said that an invitation can be sent by text only if there is also an email address in the user profile. Initially the user didn't have an email address. We added one, but unfortunately invitation by text still did not work. An invitation has now been sent to the new email address. It is unfortunate that the system isn't usable without an email address and access to email.
