How to split expense for personal and business. QuickBooks Online is not letting me do the same way as QBSE, I can’t just simply mark certain portion for business.

Hello gwendolin_000,

Thanks for reaching out. It sounds like you've got some work in QuickBooks Self-Employed under your belt and now you're trying QuickBooks Online. That's awesome and I'm glad to hear that you're exploring which QuickBooks product is best for you.

The Self-Employed and Online versions of QuickBooks are both great for different business needs. With that in mind, it's important to note that they don't work the same way. For instance, while you can categorize transactions to be business related or personal in QuickBooks Self-Employed, QuickBooks Online's transactions are strictly business-oriented. This means that you won't be able to categorize personal transactions in QuickBooks Online.

If you're in the bank feed and hoping to split a transaction there, you'll need to exclude that transaction and enter the business portion of it in QuickBooks. If you've got a case where you've paid for some personal things with a business account or vice versa, check out this article to find the right steps for you: Mixing business and personal funds

I also recommend touching base with an accountant if you need a hand sorting out these kinds of details. They'll be able to let you know how to properly record your transactions so you can reconcile without issue later on.

To add an accountant you're working with to your books, simply go to the My Accountant tab and use the invite field to invite them by email. To find an accountant to work with, click the Find a Pro to Help button on the same tab instead. This'll take you to a screen where you can enter your postal code to find an accountant that knows QuickBooks near you.

I'm here if you need further clarification. Have a great day!
