I have some bills from a client that I need to allocate to a specific project.  The project's status is completed and on the Bill screen, it does not show up in the drop down list for Customer/Project.  Does the project status have to be changed in order to add bills/expenses?

Using the Projects feature is a great way to keep track of your income and expenses for various jobs. It's essential that you're able to allocate your transactions to your project in order to stay organized. Luckily, QuickBooks Online makes this process really easy for you. 


If your project's status is set as Completed, you should still be able to allocate bills and expenses to this project. I'd recommend double-checking to ensure you haven't accidentally changed the project status to "Cancelled". If the project is Cancelled, you'll no longer see it appearing in the Customer/Project drop-down menu when you create transactions.

Here's how to check the status:


1. Click the Projects tab on the left navigation menu. 

2. Click the project you'd like to check the status of.

3. At the top left-hand side of the page, take note of whether the project is Completed, or Cancelled


If the project has been set to Cancelled, simply click this drop-down to change the status to Completed. If the status is indeed already set to Completed, I recommend clearing your cache and cookies in your web browser to eliminate any browser-related issues. If you're still having issues locating the project in the drop-down menu when you create a bill or expense, I'd recommend calling our phone support team to get to the bottom of what may be happening.
