Acceptable use of Payments (Merchant Services) in Canada

The Payments feature in Quickbooks Online (QBO) allows business owners (Merchants) to process credit card payments through an Invoice link, as well as manually enter payments in the product.

The following list details what can and cannot be accepted when using the Payments feature in QBO.

Accepted uses

Credit Card payment entry in the product using Canadian payment methods:

  • Discover
  • MasterCard
  • Visa
  • Apple Pay*

* Apple Pay is not a separate payment method, rather a housing application for the above credit card types.

Credit card payment through Invoice link using Canadian payment methods:

  • Discover
  • MasterCard
  • Visa
  • Apple Pay*

* Apple Pay is not a separate payment method, rather a housing application for the above credit card types.

Set-up recurring payments with customer authorization:

  • Discover
  • MasterCard
  • Visa

Unaccepted uses

Process a payment with Multi-Currency:

  • the product does not support receiving payments from non-Canadian currencies

Process a payment with a debit credit card:

  • Visa and MasterCard debit cards do not always have an address associated with the card profile. As a result, the system cannot verify the credit details and the process does not complete.

Use an American-sourced credit card with Canadian details:

  • some business owners attempt to use an American-sourced credit card in the QBO Canada system. This process is not supported.
