Customize Report Margins Excel Export

Hello!

Whenever I export a report (Income/Expense or Balance Sheet) to Excel, I always have to adjust the outside margins in Excel after export. Is there a way to change the report format in Quickbooks so that it exports the way I want it to without having to reformat afterwards?

Customize Report Margins Excel Export

Hi there,

Exporting reports allows you to have a personal copy outside of QuickBooks. QuickBooks is geared towards giving you maximum flexibility when it comes to running reports and exporting them. I'll be glad to share information about exporting reports.

First, I'll list out the ways you can export reports in QuickBooks and here's how:

  1. In QuickBooks, go to the Reports menu and select Reports Centre.
  2. Find and open any report.
  3. Select the Excel on the toolbar. You can also select Print or Email to save the report as a PDF.

    Save,
  4. To create a new Excel workbook, select Create New Worksheet. If you want to update an existing workbook with the data in the open report, select Update Existing Worksheet. Select Browse and then find the workbook on your computer. Keep in mind, this overwrites the existing workbook.
  5. If you want to format the data a specific way, select Advanced. This is optional.

I encourage you to check out these helpful article with more info on customizing your templates so your reports can be exported the way you'd like for them to:

Let me know if this info helps. I'll be happy to assist you further in the comments below. Otherwise, have a great rest of the year and feel free to stop by if you need anything QuickBooks related.

Thank you for your response, however everything you posted about exporting to Excel was information I already knew and use daily. It did not however answer my question about changing the format of the Quickbooks report margins so that they are correct when I export, rather than having to change the margins in Excel after I export.

Also, the links at the bottom of your response only talk about customizing templates, which also does not address my question about reports.

Customize Report Margins Excel Export

All export reports out of QBDT are standarized so even if you use Advanced button to customize it, you are limited to just a few ways to limit the margins you're trying to get rid of.

We use QODBC to export into an Excel flat file. it's just a header for the field and the data in the field below (in that column. no need for format, it's ready for pivot tables, graphs, etc.

anything requiring a financial statement format, QBDT already does well...
