How can I show my reports as a graph?

Hi there,

Running your business with QuickBooks Online is such an awesome way to save time and effort with your bookkeeping. The user-friendly interface makes it easy to review your financial data, and it's important that you can make the most of what the program has to offer. I'll explain what kinds of graphs and visuals are available within the account.

The primary place to review report information in graph format is on the Dashboard. This is the main page you see when you log into your account. The Dashboard will display your invoices, expenses, profit and loss, and sales details in graph format.

The other place you can look to see information in graph format is within the reports centre. Click the Reports tab on the left navigation menu, then click the Business Snapshot report. This report will display graphs for the following information:

  • My Income
  • My Expenses
  • Previous Year Income Comparison
  • Previous Year Expense Comparison

Other than the Dashboard and the Business Snapshot report, other report details would have to be created into a graph outside the program.

I think it would be really handy to have the option to generate graphs from your reports within QBO. I'd be happy to pass on your thoughts about this to my team. I'd recommend submitting feedback on your end as well. You can do this by clicking the Gear icon > Feedback

If you have any other questions, please reach out to our tech support team.

Cheers.

How can I show my reports as a graph?

Hi AddieC,

I'm a new QBO+ user.  I'm truly stunned that one cannot generate graphs within QBO+ of *any* report one creates. in QBO+. Wow! :((

How can I show my reports as a graph?

Hi Trevor,

Thanks for joining us here. It's important to present your business information in a way that's easy for you to analyze. In addition to what my colleague Addie shared above, QuickBooks Online also enables you to view and customize graphs as chart bars or trend lines. You can do so for data such as.

  • Revenue
  • Expenses
  • Gross profit
  • Net profit
  • Accounts receivable
  • Accounts payable
  • COGS
  • Current ratio
  • Quick ratio

To do so, here's how to proceed.

  1. Go to the Reports menu and choose the Performance centre tab (this will display several graphs representing your business health).
  2. Click on +Add new chart to generate a new graph.
  3. Choose a category then Continue.
  4. Select between Vertical bars or Trend line.
  5. Customize the Time period and Name as necessary.
  6. Select Add to Dashboard.

And there you have it! If you'd benefit from additional options in managing reports in the program, feel free to submit feedback directly to our engineers using the steps shared in the initial response to this thread. Your comments are crucial in driving innovation to offer the best QuickBooks experience we can.

Have a great day!

How can I show my reports as a graph?

This information is hard to come by.  Which qbo programs allow you do graphs.  Is it just online advanced or is it all of them.  I got simple start and it does not even have a company snapshot.  Coming from desktop pro I miss that profit loss graph that dominates the insights screen.  Seems like. Am stepping backwards in time.

How can I show my reports as a graph?

Hi there @Eric1001 and thanks for joining in on this thread to express your interest in seeing your report data in the form of a graph. The steps outlined above by @PatriciaT are for users with QuickBooks Online Accountant. Since you're using QuickBooks Online SimpleStart, you won't have this option. For QuickBooks Online Essentials or Plus users, we have a Business Snapshot report that can be pulled from the Reports section. It however, isn't available to SimpleStart users.

If seeing reports like this is vital for your business, you can Upgrade your QuickBooks Online subscription. This is a straightforward process and will enable you to take advantage of more awesome features to make the bookkeeping for your business even easier. Since I know that upgrading isn't in the cards for all businesses, I'd like to encourage you to submit feedback on this to our product development team. Navigate to the Gear icon, then choose Feedback to let them know that you'd like to see the option to view your data in graph or chart from in QuickBooks Online SimpleStart. I'll pass the message along on my end as well.

Some options that you do have are to export your reports to Excel and manipulate the data manually in order to view it in graph or chart form. Your homeage also allows you to Get a snapshot of your business finances.

Let me know if there's more I can do to help you out. Have a great day!

How can I show my reports as a graph?

I am also stunned too. There are data that we as a business what to analyze from the graphical viewpoint.  The ability to generate these graphs helps to make better business decisions.  For a brand that sells products you want to have an idea what product sells more, the locations and sometimes gender that purchase the most.  These details will help in making better marketing decision.  It is not all about just monitoring expenses and income.  It can also help cut wastage with respect to expenses.

I hear what you're saying @zorkle and I hope you'll consider submitting feedback on this using the method I explained in my reply above. Letting out product development team know what features you want to see ensures that they're in the loop on what features our products need to suit the needs of our users. Have a great day!

How can I show my reports as a graph?

My understanding is that the option to create charts and graphs is only available through the Performance Center in the Advanced subscription option. This Advanced subscription is recommended to businesses with 25 + users and is double the monthly cost of the QBO Plus subscription @ $150.00/M. There does not seem to be any subscription in between or ala carte options.
It is counter-productive to export the data to excel to create a graph when the data is already on QB and the software app to do so has already been created.
For visual learners charts and graphs are key to seeing the full business picture...it's a shame we are being held hostage in our smaller creative businesses by the huge monthly cost factor absorbable by large companies with 25+ users! Creatives & visionaries are not then suited to the QBO platform! Intuit has perhaps inadvertently bumped out half or more of their market share by only catering their products to the analytical users and bumping out the creative entrepreneurs....Hmmmm??🧐
I will also submit my feedback as you have suggested Rebecca.

How can I show my reports as a graph?

Hello Patricia,

Thank you for this post.  What version of QuickBooks did you find this feature in?  I use QB Enterprise Solutions, and don't seem to have Performance Option under reports.

Thank you!

Hello txbquser. The steps provided by Patricia above are for QuickBooks Online. Since you're using QuickBooks Desktop, I encourage you to take advantage of the Insights tab that allows you to view your data in graphs. Here's a screenshot for visual reference:

How can I show my reports as a graph?

Hello JamesM4,

Thank you very much for your response.   A specific graph report I was trying to create is several specific income lines over multiple years.  I can run a report with this data and export to excel to generate a graph, however was seeking a way to generate custom graphs within QuickBooks.  The data is there, just in numerical format.  If there is a way to generate custom graphs, please let me know.

Thanks again for your response!
