Hello, Mike. We appreciate the methods you've tried. The journal entry you created isn’t appearing in the HST report because journal entries don’t populate GST/HST return lines. Only sales tax amounts tied to transactions with tax codes or adjustments made directly through the Sales Tax Centre can be recognized in the system.
To properly record the HST obligation from prior periods, you'll need to create a Sales tax adjustment instead. Here's how:
Here's how:
- Navigate to the Taxes menu.
- In the Sales Tax window, select the relevant agency (e.g., CRA HST ON 13%).
- Under the Filings section, click Prepare Return for the intended period.

- On the Prepare return page, select the Adjust link on the right side of the specific line you want to modify.
- Enter the amount to adjust for the tax line (use a negative number if reducing the amount).
- Choose your Adjustment account, which could be an income account for tax credits or the Tax Payable account if appropriate. If you’re unsure, consulting an accounting professional is recommended to ensure accuracy in selecting the adjustment account.
- Click Save to confirm your changes.
This adjustment will correctly update the amount due on your return, reflect in your HST report, and ensure your books remain consistent.
