How do you set up a new Account Type and Detail Type in Chart of Accounts?

Hi there, 

 

Your Chart of Accounts is the central area of all the back-end bookkeeping functions in QuickBooks Online. QBO makes it easy for you to add a new account and select the Account Type and Detail Type of your choosing, or to edit an existing Account/Detail Type. I'll explain the process below. 

 

To create a new account, follow these steps: 

 

1. Click Accounting on the left navigation menu. 

2. Choose Chart of Accounts

3. Click New

4. Select the Account Type and Detail Type

5. Fill in all other information based on your needs. 

6. Select Save and Close

 

To edit the Account/Detail Type in an existing account, follow these steps:

 

1. Click Accounting on the left navigation menu. 

2. Choose Chart of Accounts

3. Select the small drop-down menu for the account you'd like to edit. 

4. Change the Account Type or Detail Type

5. Click Save and Close

 

Note: You may see a message that says, "Changing the type or detail type of an account may affect your accounting and reporting. Are you sure you want to do this?"


If you're sure about your changes, click Yes.
