Sales Dashboard includes non-invoice deposits

In looking at the sales tab on the dashboard, it appears as though non-sales deposits are being recorded as sales.  Including:

- bank transfers as a result of currency exchange

- deposits to the business from shareholders for expenses

- bank fees charged to the bank account

The same is true of the Sales report showing under 'unspecified' customers.

Seems like a bug that non-invoice items should be counted as sales...

Lance.

Sales Dashboard includes non-invoice deposits

Aha!  In reviewing the transactions, the tax chosen was 'Out of Scope (Sales)' where it should have been something else; upon removing this tag, or changing it to purchases, these transactions fell off the sales report and widget.

Hello Lance,

I appreciate the details of what you're seeing in on your QuickBooks Online Dashboard. The Sales tile calculates based on sales transactions entered into the books, such as invoices and sales receipts. Since you're seeing other kinds of transactions making up the numbers in that tab, it's important to consider how they've been entered into your books. I'll help you with this.

Transactions using the Bank Deposit feature in QuickBooks shouldn't hit that tile, even if you were to use a sales income account. Additionally, bank fees should register as expenses in the account rather than sales when you're adding the fees from the bank feed or entering them manually on the reconcile setup for the account.

In light of this, getting a closer look at how these transactions have been recorded is key to determining what's going on. I recommend reviewing the transactions in your books to make sure they haven't accidentally been recorded as sales transactions. If they have, simply delete the transactions and then rerecord them as needed.

Thanks for the input LauraAB

Theyre definitely not sales transactions since they were brought over using the Banking interface with my accounts.  I’ll give support a ring and see if they spot something and update here for everyone’s benefit.

Hi VICM73,

Thanks for joining us here.  To have transactions appear on the dashboard's sales widget, in QuickBooks Online, you'll need to create invoices and sales receipts.  When you create an invoice, you'll then link a deposit to it.
