Statements in French for Quebec customers

Hi there,

It's great to see that you're still using QuickBooks Online since the last time you visited the Community. Communication with your customers is key, and I know that being able to use their preferred language plays a big role in that. I'd be happy to go over this for you so you know your options for having French statements for your Quebec customers.

When you're setting up a customer in QuickBooks Online, you can set a preferred language for them with the Language tab on the Edit customer window. This language setting currently applies to invoices and ensures that the basic structure of the document, such as the name of the form (invoice) and the related columns are in whatever language chosen. At this time, that feature doesn't extend to other forms, but you can learn more about it here: Send invoices in different languages

Since the customer language settings don't extend to other forms, including customer statements, workarounds are in order to make sure your customer can read what you're sending them.

The thing about Statements in QuickBooks Online is that there isn't a custom form style specifically for that kind of form. If you've been editing the labels on say your invoice forms styles, that's why the changes aren't showing up on your statements.

What the statement relies on instead is the Master Form Type in the Custom form styles section for it's formatting. While you could change the headings and terminology on that form to suit your needs for this statement, it's important to note that this form type applies to several different forms in QuickBooks, including statements, credit memos, purchase orders, and others like those. This means if you were to change something about that style, it would also impact the others that use it. Learn more about form customization here: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online

When you have customers speaking different languages and different uses for a single template, that's not ideal. What you can consider instead is creating the statements manually outside of the program using whatever program best suits your needs or using a third-party service or app to create the statements you're looking for.

QuickBooks Online's Apps tab has a number of partner applications that can do various tasks and some even link to other services or software to bring the data into your books. These are useful for filling in gaps like these while our product development team continues to evolve QuickBooks.

Speaking of the product development team, it's possible to share your thoughts with them using these steps: How do I submit feedback? Comments left through that process are forwarded to the team for consideration as QuickBooks grows.

I hope that's helped shed some light on the situation. I'll be around should you have more questions. :)

Statements in French for Quebec customers

Hi there milafond,

It's important that all your transactions are correctly entered for your books to be well balanced. QuickBooks Online is a great tool able to help you create and send invoices to your customers so they can pay you for your services. I can provide some information about sending statements.

The feature mentioned above is only for sending invoices in different languages, as the statements are based on the language set up for your QuickBooks account. What you could do would be to send the statements out to the English customers, then change the language of your QuickBooks account to French in order to send out the French statements. You can change the language by going to the Gear icon, then Account and Settings. Select the Advanced tab, and you'll be able to change the language in that menu.
