Should it take 1.5 hours for a newly created tax rate to become available for selection in the sales column dropdown in an invoice or estimate?

Being new to this i thought i was doing something wrong... so for almost 2 hours i clicked around, quadrupled checked every possibility, searched the internet for answers.... then i tried a different browser (chrome) and my custom tax rate showed up.    In shock that it could be related to the browser, i opened up the first browser again and there was my custom tax rate ready for selecting in the first browser too (firefox).   So now i don't know what to think.  I was under the impression the tax would have been automatically applied based on the customers address which is in a different province from mine.   When that didn't happen i created the new custom tax rate with their provincial  HST rate.  Then for more than 90 minutes i wondered if i was doing something wrong.  It was super frustrating.  Now it appear quickbooks itself was taking a nap.  The next time something doesn't work right I don't know if i'll have the patience to spend over an hour and half checking things when it could be entirely possible quickbooks is not functioning correctly.

Hey there, paul-clientlande.

Thanks for reaching out to the Community for support. I'd be happy to provide some information.

Sometimes browsing data can accumulate on your system and prevent your software from doing what it is supposed to do. When this happens, I recommend clearing your cache and cookies as this help resolve browsing data issues.

If you have any other questions, feel free to reach back out.

The problem with this approach is that it requires the user to be aware that what they are looking at is cached data.  Since that cannot be an assumption one should take as given every time they make a change, it’s not a very practical solution.

Hi paul-clientlande,

QuickBooks Online provides the option to set a default tax that will be automatically be applied when you create a sales form.

Follow these steps to apply a default tax rate to your customers;

1. From the left menu, open Sales, then Customers

2. Locate and select the customer from the list

3. Click on Edit

4. Scroll down to the Taxes section

5. Check the box to Assign default tax code

6. Use the ▼ dropdown menu to select the appropriate tax code

7. Hit Save.

You're all set!
