How do I clear the old transactions in HST transaction list if a client has never filed the HST returns in QBO. So that going forward it can be correctly accounted for?

Hello,

Filing Sales Tax is made simple in QuickBooks Online! With just a few simple clicks, you can record your sales tax filing and record your payment. Filing sales tax is a four part process. First, prepare your sales tax return in QuickBooks Online. Second, submit your return to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Third, close your filing period in QuickBooks Online. Finally, record your payment to or refund from the CRA.

It's not recommended that you delete previously entered transactions in your QuickBooks Online if you've never filed sales tax. When you're preparing your return, you can increase or decrease all lines relating to your Tax Payable account. You'll need to specify an adjustment account to offset the change. If you only want to adjust the filing, you can select the Tax Payable account, resulting in a neutral transaction which will not affect your Chart of Accounts.

Moving forward, here's how to file sales tax in QuickBooks Online: File sales tax. I'd recommend consulting with an accountant for their professional opinion as to whether any sales tax adjustments need to be made in order to retain the integrity of your books. Here's how to adjust sales tax: Adjust sales tax. Keep in mind that when reviewing your GST/HST Summary Report, only those transactions with the appropriate tax code will be included.
