How do you enter a previous years' HST rebate from the government ?

Hi kirsty-horton,

Thanks for reaching out. QuickBooks Online is designed with a powerful sales tax center to help you produce accurate tax returns and record your payment to or refund from the CRA easily. I'll be happy to show you how.

After preparing your HST return in QuickBooks Online, you can record your rebate in a few steps.

  1. Select Taxes from the left menu
  2. Ensure Sales Tax is shown at the top. (Tip: If you use payroll in QuickBooks Online, you may need to select Sales Tax as opposed to Payroll Tax)
  3. Next to Sales Tax at the top, find the tax agency associated with the return you'd like to prepare the return for using the drop-down.
  4. Choose Filed from the All returns drop-down
  5. Select Record payment from the drop-down in the Action column.
  6. Select the appropriate Payment type. Tip: Select Payment if the number is positive and Refund is if the number is negative
  7. Enter the Payment date, or the date which you paid the CRA.
  8. (Optional) Use the Memo to include anything you want to remember about this payment
  9. Once you make the payment, you'll see it in your Account History under the date you recorded the payment.

In case you haven't prepared your return in QuickBooks Online corresponding to your HST rebate period, you can do so by following the steps in this article: File sales tax

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, let me know.
