Two software "bugs" to be aware of in respect of medical expenses.. one minor and one major
The minor bug.... some may not consider this to be a bug. When preparing returns for a couple, there is a question at the top of the medical form asking, Optimize medical expenses? Yes or no. This is always set to NO. In almost all instances I would want the answer to be YES, but I cannot find any way to change this so that it defaults to yes. This seems vey strange. Profile, please provide an option to allow a default to YES.
The MAJOR bug... When preparing the return for a taxpayer who does not have a spouse, the choice "Are you claiming medical expenses?" does not appear because, well, why would it? If medical expenses are entered, of course the taxpayer wants to claim them.
EXCEPT...........
When I uncouple returns, or I am preparing the return for a spouse who was widowed in a previous year, even though I am preparing a return that is not linked to any other return, "Are you claiming medical expenses?" is a choice that is presented AND IT ALWAYS DEFAULTS TO NO. So if I forget to change this to YES, not matter how much medical I enter, it is not claimed.
So, If a taxpayer's return was once linked to spouse return, but it no longer linked, that question comes up year after year after year after year, and defaults to NO.
Profile, please please please fix this
Thank you
