You can record your income tax refund by creating a deposit, Nancy.
But to make sure you keep your records clean, consider setting up a dedicated account to track the refund if one hasn't been created yet. To do so, follow the steps below.
- Click on the Gear icon and select Chart of accounts.
- Press the New account button on the upper-right corner.
- Enter an Account name.
- Choose an Account type such as Other Income, and select a corresponding Detail type from the dropdown like Income.

- (Optional) Add a Description to add extra information about this account.
- Click Save.
Once the account is set up, you can record the refund as a deposit by following these steps:
- Select the + New icon.
- Choose Bank deposit.
- From the Account dropdown, select the account you want to put the money into.
- Enter the relevant details in the Add funds to this deposit section.
- Click Save and close.
